Brass & Copper Floor Inlays – Feature Lines, Borders & Medallions

Durable brass and copper floor inlays for borders, feature lines and medallions in high-end interiors.

Brass & Copper Floor Inlays

Brass and copper floor inlays are increasingly used in high-end residential, hospitality and commercial interiors to create striking feature lines, borders and medallion-style focal points. At
Metal Sheets Ltd, we manufacture precision-cut inlay strips, profiles and engraved metal panels in brass and copper — supplied ready for installation by flooring contractors, joinery workshops and interior designers.

Why Choose Brass or Copper for Floor Inlays?

Brass and copper are premium materials that add warmth, contrast and durability to any flooring design.
Both metals can be supplied in strip, profile or engraved panel form, offering multiple ways to introduce detail into wooden, stone or tiled floors.

  • Excellent wear resistance for high-traffic areas
  • Pairs naturally with hardwood, parquet and herringbone floors
  • Can form borders, feature lines or circular medallions
  • Available in polished, brushed and antique patina finishes
  • Cut to exact widths for seamless installation

Floor Inlay Applications

Brass and copper inlays can be incorporated into traditional or contemporary flooring schemes. Common uses include:

  • Border lines around rooms or zones
  • Feature strips between flooring materials
  • Decorative lines in parquet or herringbone flooring
  • Large circular medallions or geometric designs
  • Floor accents in hotel lobbies, bars and restaurants
  • Room dividers and threshold transitions

Inlay Strip & Profile Options

We manufacture inlays in two main formats: thin strip cut from sheet, and solid brass or copper sections for more substantial detailing. Both are suitable for routing into timber flooring or setting between stone and tile.

Sheet-Cut Inlay Strips

Ideal for recessed lines and borders. Available in:

  • Brass: 0.7 mm to 3 mm thickness
  • Copper: 0.7 mm to 3 mm thickness

Strip widths are guillotine-cut to any size required, and both metals are stocked in full 8 ft × 4 ft sheets for large-format floor inlays and medallion work.

Solid Brass & Copper Profiles

For deeper feature lines, medallions or high-wear zones, solid metal profiles may be preferred.

Brass profiles have square corners, while copper flat bar has a small 1 mm corner radius.

Popular Brass Profile Sizes:

  • 3/16″ × 3/16″ (approx. 4.8 mm × 4.8 mm)
  • 1/4″ × 1/4″ (approx. 6.35 mm × 6.35 mm)
  • 5/16″ × 5/16″ (approx. 8 mm × 8 mm)
  • 1/2″ × 1/8″ (approx. 12.7 mm × 3.2 mm)

Popular Copper Profile Sizes:

  • 1/2″ × 3/16″ (approx. 12.7 mm × 4.8 mm)
  • 5/8″ × 1/8″ (approx. 15.9 mm × 3.2 mm)
  • 1/2″ × 1/4″ (approx. 12.7 mm × 6.35 mm)
  • 3/4″ × 1/8″ (approx. 19.05 mm × 3.2 mm)

Engraved & Decorative Inlay Panels

For bespoke medallions, motifs or patterned feature zones, we can engrave or laser-cut designs directly into 1.5–3 mm brass or copper panels. These can be recessed into flooring as statement centrepieces.

Installation Considerations

Metal inlays require careful preparation and installation to ensure long-lasting performance.
Flooring contractors typically use the following methods:

Recessed Installation

The most common method — a routed channel in wood flooring allows the metal inlay to sit flush with the surface.

Adhesive Setting

Brass or copper strips are bonded into place with flexible adhesive, sometimes with light clamping during curing.

Expansion Allowance

Because wood expands and contracts, installers may allow a small expansion gap around deep or wide metal profiles.

Finishing & Protection

Inlays can be left natural, polished or patinated. Clear lacquer or wax can be applied depending on the required finish and level of maintenance the client is happy to undertake.
