Hot Rolled: The Basics

Hot rolled (HR) and cold rolled (CR) steel are the two primary forms of mild steel. Hot rolled steel is the initial product from steel mills, serving as a precursor to further treatments like cold rolling. Typically, hot rolled sheets retain a mill scale, which can appear black and blue in color, earning the name Black Mild Steel or Raw Steel. This type of steel is widely used in fabrication shops due to its cost-effectiveness, though the surface appearance can vary, as illustrated in the product images above.
