Zinc Signage - Signs, Plaques & Letters - All Bespoke

Metal Sheets specialise in the design and manufacture of bespoke zinc signage, including zinc signs, zinc plaques and individually cut letters, all crafted to precise specifications. Every piece is made to order and typically finished with an aged, antique-style patina following engraving, resulting in signage that is both visually distinctive and rich in character.

Zinc signage remains a less commonly used option, which makes it particularly well suited to clients seeking a refined, individual alternative to more traditional materials such as aluminium, acrylic or plastic-based signs. Its naturally muted tones and patinable surface lend themselves well to both contemporary and heritage settings.

Zinc is also an environmentally responsible material choice. Fully recyclable and exceptionally durable, it offers a low-impact alternative to plastic-based signage, while maintaining excellent performance and longevity in a wide range of environments.

All of our zinc signage is completely bespoke. We work from DXF files and most common design formats, and our in-house CAD specialists are available to support you throughout the design process, whether you're refining your own drawings or starting from an initial concept.

Is zinc a good choice for a sign?

Zinc is an excellent material for signage thanks to its combination of durability, versatility and visual warmth. Unlike aluminium or stainless steel, which can sometimes appear a little clinical, zinc introduces a softer and more characterful aesthetic that suits both contemporary and traditional settings. It naturally develops a protective patina over time, which not only enhances its appearance but also shields the surface from corrosion and weather damage. This makes zinc well suited for both interior and exterior applications, whether mounted indoor

Antique zinc signs

Antique zinc patina is achieved through controlled ageing processes that deepen the metal’s surface tone, resulting in darker grey or charcoal shading with subtle mottling. Rather than appearing artificially distressed, antique zinc carries a timeworn elegance that mimics decades of natural exposure. This finish is especially popular in interior design schemes where warmth and atmosphere are prioritised over high gloss or uniformity.

Aged zinc signs

Aged zinc patina replicates the look of naturally exposed zinc that has matured gently over time, settling into mid-toned greys often with soft blue or beige undertones. Unlike darker antique finishes or heavily oxidised rusting effects, aged zinc retains subtle brightness while still conveying a sense of history and refinement.

This makes aged zinc signs particularly versatile across design styles. They work equally well in minimal contemporary spaces and classic interiors. The lightly weathered appearance gives visual depth without dominating its surro

Satin zinc signs

Satin zinc patina provides a smoother, more refined surface with a soft sheen rather than a high polish. It balances modernity and subtlety by offering a clean appearance without appearing sterile. The satin finish retains zinc’s natural grain while gently diffusing light, which helps prevent strong reflections.

Satin zinc signs are ideal for interiors requiring sophistication without excessive ornamentation. Corporate spaces, galleries and upscale retail frequently specify satin finishes for their ability to sit quietly within a design scheme whil

Medium zinc signs

Medium zinc patina refers to a balanced finish between raw mill zinc and fully aged or darkened patinas. It features soft natural variations in tone, typically landing in neutral grey with mild shading and metallic warmth. This makes it one of the most adaptable zinc finishes for signage.

Medium zinc signs integrate smoothly into almost any environment without overwhelming surrounding materials. Whether installed in a farmhouse kitchen, office reception or retail display, they provide visual interest without demanding attention. The patina can be left to

Zinc Signage for The Long Barn

This example features a custom-made zinc plaque we produced for The Long Barn, designed to complement the brand’s natural and rustic product range. The plaque was engraved and then treated with an aged finish to achieve a look in keeping with their aesthetic.

We used a 1.5mm thick sheet of zinc for this piece. After engraving, the recessed lettering was given a dark patina to create a striking black contrast, while the surface of the plaque received a lighter patina to provide a soft, weathered appearance.

Zinc Signage for Creattiva

This custom-fabricated zinc sign panel was produced specifically for Creattiva, combining engraved detail with a bold finish and distinctive shaping.

To begin the process, we engraved the TCC text and logo into a zinc sheet, which was then precision-cut to size. The panel was subsequently formed into an angled profile using our CNC-controlled press brake, ensuring accurate and consistent bends. Once the fabrication was complete, the engraved areas were carefully filled with yellow enamel to provide contrast and visual impact.

Zinc Signage for English Garden

This bespoke zinc plaque was created for English Garden Group, a well-established garden design company. It forms part of a series of zinc plaques produced using 1.5mm thick zinc sheet metal, offering both durability and a refined, understated appearance.

After engraving and cutting the plaque to the required dimensions, we filled the recessed lettering with white enamel for a clean, high-contrast finish. Once the enamel had cured, the plaque was patinated in our workshop to achieve a deep black zinc effect, enhancing the visibility of the text while maintaining a natural, aged look.

More Examples of Zinc Signage

Compared to more commonly used metals such as brass and copper, zinc signs remain a more niche option. However, its naturally rustic character makes it particularly appealing for those seeking something with a bit more individuality. Patinas can be applied in a range of tones, from soft grey to rich black.

Zinc Signage - Letters

This example showcases the creation of bespoke zinc letters, precision-cut from solid zinc sheet to match a customer-supplied font.

The lettering for The Dog House was produced using the client’s exact typeface, demonstrating the level of customisation we can offer. Each letter was cut from 1.5mm thick zinc sheet metal, ensuring strength and a clean edge. Once the letters were shaped, they were treated in our patina studio with a dark, aged finish to achieve a striking, weathered appearance.

Zinc Signage - 3D Zinc Letters

This project involved the creation of three-dimensional zinc letters for Selfridges London, produced as part of a collaboration with the activewear brand Sweaty Betty. The result was a set of striking, handcrafted 3D zinc letters made entirely from sheet zinc.

Each letter was formed from individual components, cut with precision using our in-house sheet metal fabrication facilities . These sections were then soldered together to create the full three-dimensional structure. Once assembled, the letters were treated with a dark patina to achieve a bold, ag
