Introduction to Hammered Brass Sheets

Before the sheets are skillfully hammered, they undergo a process by a specialist metal polisher. This ensures a bright mirror finish before we start, as well as the application of a protective peel-able plastic film. This film not only safeguards the sheet from any damage during the hammering process, but also protects against oxidation during storage.

Fabrication Note:

After the beating process the sheets develop a curvature, this is because as you beat the metal it stretches. To regain a degree of flatness the sheets are passed through a set of sheet metal rolls. This improves the flatness, though there is always a degree of curvature. When the sheet are subsequently fabricated and folded the metal along the fold line is quite flat. When fabriacting larger areas the sheets may need bonding to a timber sustrate to get full flatness.
