Burnished Metal Finishes for Sheet and Sections

This gallery showcases our burnished finishes across multiple metals. Burnished brass sheet was the first finish developed in our studio and was recently featured in our article, Explore Burnished Brass Finishes. With growing interest, we’ve expanded the range to include burnished copper, steel and zinc, allowing clear side-by-side comparisons. These burnished metal finishes are available on sheet metal and on matching sections such as angles and flat bars — ideal wherever sheet and sections are combined in a single design feature.

Introduction to Burnished Metals

This gallery brings together a curated selection of our burnished metal finishes from the Brass Finishes, Copper Finishes, Steel Finishes, and Zinc Finishes collections. Displayed side by side, these burnished metal finishes highlight the different tones, textures and visual depth achieved through both hand- and machine-applied burnishing.

Whether you’re researching options for interior design, bespoke furniture, feature wall panels or architectural detailing, this gallery makes it easy to compare the character of each burnished sheet metal finish. Many of these finishes can also be applied to brass and copper angles, tee sections, and flat bars—burnished antique brass flat bars remain a popular complement to patinated and polished brass sheets.

A Guide for Designers on Burnished Metals

Burnished metal finishes offer a distinctive blend of texture, depth and craftsmanship that cannot be achieved through standard polishing or brushing. Whether applied by hand or produced through a controlled machine process, burnishing enhances the natural tone of the metal and introduces subtle movement across the surface. These burnished metal finishes are widely specified by designers for feature panels, bar fronts, furniture, and architectural metalwork where a more tactile, layered and bespoke aesthetic is desired.

Burnished Metal — FAQs

What is burnished metal?

Burnished metal is sheet metal that has been hand- or machine-finished to create a softer sheen,
visible movement and a more tactile surface than standard brushed or polished finishes. It provides
depth and character while retaining the durability of the underlying metal.

What is the difference between hand-burnished and machine-burnished finishes?

Hand-burnished finishes have more organic movement and tonal variation, while machine-burnished
metals create a consistent, repeatable linear grain. Both approaches produce elegant burnished
metal finishes suitable for interior and architectural use.

Can burnished metal be lacquered or sealed?

Yes. Most burnished metals can be waxed or lacquered to stabilise the finish. Waxing preserves a
“living” appearance, while lacquer creates a long-lasting sealed surface with minimal maintenance.
