Bespoke metal worktop upstands in copper, brass and brushed stainless steel, manufactured as an integrated part of the worktop and made to suit your required length, height and installation details. Copper • Brass • 304 Stainless Steel • Bespoke Heights • Made in the UK
Metal Sheets manufactures made-to-measure metal worktop upstands for kitchens, bars, hospitality interiors and commercial workspaces. Our upstands can be fabricated as an integrated part of the metal worktop or supplied separately to suit an existing worktop, creating a coordinated and precisely made finish between the worktop and wall.

An integrated metal upstand is designed and fabricated as part of the complete worktop installation rather than treated as a standard-size accessory added afterwards. This allows the worktop and upstand to be considered together, particularly where there are corners, returns or other bespoke details.
Integrated upstands can be specified for straight worktops, L-shaped layouts, sink areas and other made-to-measure configurations.
They can also be incorporated into commercial worktops and stainless steel workstations where an upstand provides practical wall protection and helps create a clean, durable working area.
One of the main advantages of bespoke fabrication is that the upstand does not have to conform to a standard off-the-shelf size.
We can manufacture low-profile worktop upstands or substantially taller sections, depending on the design and level of wall protection required. This can be particularly useful behind sinks, preparation areas and commercial work surfaces.
Where required, taller upstands can also incorporate socket, switch and service cut-outs positioned to suit the installation.

Copper provides a warm natural surface that can be supplied in a range of finishes to coordinate with a bespoke copper worktop.
An integrated copper worktop upstand can be kept relatively low and understated or extended further up the wall as a more prominent design feature. Natural variations in the copper surface form part of its character, while aged and patinated finishes provide further decorative options.

A brass worktop upstand provides a distinctive transition between the work surface and surrounding wall and can be manufactured to match the finish of a bespoke brass worktop.
Depending on the project, brass can provide anything from a relatively clean contemporary detail to a more aged and characterful surface. Bespoke fabrication also allows the upstand height and layout to be considered as part of the complete worktop rather than added afterwards.

Brushed 304 stainless steel worktop upstands provide a durable and practical option for both domestic and commercial interiors.
They work particularly well with stainless steel worktops, sink units and preparation surfaces, where the upstand provides additional protection to the wall while maintaining the same metal finish across the working area.
Bespoke stainless steel upstands can be incorporated into domestic kitchen worktops as well as larger commercial workstations and food preparation areas.

Because each worktop and upstand is made to order, the fabrication can accommodate considerably more than simply length and height.
Our copper, brass and brushed 304 stainless steel upstands are normally manufactured from 1.2mm sheet metal formed around a 9mm moisture-resistant MDF core, giving an overall thickness of approximately 10mm. Where a more substantial or architectural appearance is required, upstands can also be manufactured at approximately 18mm, 25mm, 30mm, 36mm or 50mm overall thickness.

Depending on the design, bespoke details can include:
Corners are not welded as standard. Where welded corners or a continuous fabricated arrangement are required, these can be considered as part of the bespoke specification.
For more complex layouts, drawings or dimensions can be supplied so that the worktop and upstand can be considered as a complete fabricated assembly.

For some projects the two can be combined: an integrated metal upstand can run around the worktop perimeter while a larger matching or contrasting splashback is installed where greater wall protection is required.
We also manufacture bespoke copper splashbacks, brass splashbacks and stainless steel splashbacks, as well as made-to-measure AGA and range cooker splashbacks for larger cooking areas.
Our metal worktops and integrated upstands are manufactured to order in our UK workshop. With sheet metal cutting, folding, welding, finishing and specialist patination carried out in-house, we can produce individual worktops as well as more complex fabricated installations.
The same approach allows the upstand to be considered from the outset as part of the worktop rather than treated as a standard accessory added afterwards.

For an initial quotation, it is useful to provide:
Worktop dimensions • Upstand height • Required lengths • Metal required • Preferred finish • Sink/hob positions • Cut-outs • Corners or returns • Drawings or sketches where available
Copper and brass upstands are typically manufactured in lengths up to approximately 1980mm, with longer lengths up to approximately 2980mm possible depending on the project. Brushed 304 stainless steel upstands can typically be produced in lengths up to approximately 1980mm, 2480mm or 2980mm.

For longer copper and brass upstands, material utilisation can affect the cost, particularly where a full 3 metre sheet is required. Where several longer upstands are needed, more efficient sheet utilisation may reduce the cost per piece.
If you’re unsure about a particular detail, send us your dimensions, sketch or drawing and we can review the fabrication requirements with you.
Upstand heights are made to suit the individual project rather than being restricted to a single standard size. Practical limits will depend on the worktop design, metal and overall dimensions.

Yes. We manufacture both integrated upstands as part of our bespoke metal worktops and separate made-to-measure upstands in copper, brass and brushed 304 stainless steel. Separate upstands can be specified to suit an existing worktop or supplied alongside other fabricated metalwork.
Integrated and separate worktop upstands are available in copper, brass and 304 stainless steel, with a choice of finishes depending on the material.
Yes. We manufacture bespoke metal worktops and workstations for commercial and hospitality applications as well as residential kitchens.
Yes. In most cases the upstand can be produced in the same metal and finish as the associated worktop.
Our typical bespoke upstand construction uses 1.2mm metal formed around a 9mm moisture-resistant MDF core, giving an overall thickness of approximately 10mm.
For projects where the upstand is intended to become a more prominent design feature, we can also manufacture thicker sections at approximately 18mm, 25mm, 30mm, 36mm or 50mm overall thickness.
Copper and brass upstands should be installed using a suitable neutral-cure, non-acid-curing silicone or sealant. Acid-curing (acetoxy) silicones should be avoided as they can react with the metal and may cause staining or corrosion. Always check that the chosen sealant is suitable for use with copper or brass before installation.
