Belfast, Butler, Farmhouse & Integrated — which one suits your kitchen?

Copper Sink Styles Explained

At Metal Sheets Ltd we fabricate every sink to order in our Liverpool workshop, using premium 1.5–2.0 mm copper sheet......

Copper sinks bring warmth, durability and real craftsmanship to a kitchen. In this guide we explain the main copper sink styles — Belfast, Butler, Farmhouse and Integrated — with examples from our workshop. Every sink at Metal Sheets Ltd is made to order in Liverpool using 1.5–2.0 mm copper, precision cut and TIG welded for strength.See our bespoke copper sinks →

Integrated Copper Sinks

Integrated sinks are welded directly into the copper worktop so the bowl, drainer and any upstands form one seamless surface. This look is hygienic (no dirt-trapping joints) and perfectly suits contemporary or luxury kitchens. We laser cut the components, TIG weld, then blend and finish by hand for a smooth, continuous appearance.

Belfast & Butler Copper Sinks

These traditional apron-front sinks both feature a visible front panel and a deep rectangular bowl. Historically, a Butler sink could be slightly deeper while a Belfast sink often included an overflow weir — but in modern usage the terms are largely interchangeable. We fabricate both styles in thick copper sheet for a timeless focal point.

Farmhouse Copper Sinks

Farmhouse sinks share the apron-front look but are often specified larger for busy households or statement islands. The warm copper face adds character while the deep bowl handles big pans with ease. We can fabricate single, double or bowl-and-a-half layouts to suit your workflow.

Drop-In Copper Sinks

Drop-in (inset) sinks sit into a cut-out with the rim resting on the surface. They’re straightforward to install and can be round or rectangular. We supply them in natural satin copper or with aged/antique patina to match your interior.

FAQs About Copper Sink Styles

What’s the difference between Belfast and Butler copper sinks?

Belfast sinks traditionally include an overflow weir, while Butler sinks were often slightly deeper and without the weir. Today, the terms are used interchangeably for apron-front sinks.

Are farmhouse copper sinks practical for daily use?

Yes — farmhouse sinks have a deep bowl and apron-front, making them ideal for handling large pans and busy kitchens while adding strong visual appeal.

Can integrated copper sinks be customised?

Absolutely. Integrated sinks are TIG welded into copper worktops and can include welded drainers, splashbacks, or multiple bowls to suit your kitchen layout.

Do copper sinks require special maintenance?

Copper sinks are easy to care for. Clean with mild soap and water, avoid harsh abrasives, and apply beeswax to slow the natural patina process. For more options, explore our copper finishes to see how different patinas and protective coatings can enhance your sink.
