Rusty Metal Panels Photo Shoot

Rusty Metal Panels Lighting Display

Metal Sheets are suppliers of natural, blackened and rusted steel sheets and manufacturers of design features.

Rusty Metal Panels: A Perfect Backdrop for Stunning Design

We used Corten steel sheets to make the rusty metal panels that provided an exceptional backdrop for a recent photo shoot set designed by renowned interiors stylist Arabella McNie for Porta Romana. The orb lighting pendants featured by the furniture brand shine brilliantly against the bespoke, rusty metal panels, creating a captivating visual contrast. I think one of our rusted corten steel planters would have added to the backdrop!

Our Patina Studio

At Metal Sheets Ltd, our Patina Development Studio has mastered the art of crafting custom aged sheet metal finishes over the years. Each application of patina is meticulously hand-applied, resulting in unique and individualized pieces. The rusted Corten steel sheet used in this lighting display underwent multiple applications of rust. This achieves a rich, deep brown-red finish, evoking an authentic, heavy industrial aesthetic.

While we proudly collaborate with architects, designers, and individuals to realize their creative visions, it’s essential to understand that the depth and pattern of the patina can only be controlled to a certain extent. The process of applying patina blends elements of science and art, offering a fascinating degree of variability. Rusty metal panels have featured in promtions by many high street names.

Unlike paint or wallpaper, which can be precisely managed using technology, our artisan-applied rusted Corten sheets require flexibility and an appreciation for the natural variations that occur during the process. This unpredictability is what makes each piece truly special and interesting.

Natural Corten Steel

Natural Corten sheets, as they arrive from the steel mill, can vary in finish—some may have a semi-bright sheen while others come with a tight mill scale. When exposed to the UK’s natural weather, these sheets can take up to 12 months to begin rusting, initially showcasing an orange hue. It’s only after years of outdoor exposure and through cycles of wet and dry conditions that the desired dark chestnut brown emerges.
